Unknown to me and many of the fans that came to the games, NMU had printed trading cards to hand out to the fans that came to attend the games. Yesterday upon entering the building fans received the freshmen and sophomore girl’s basketball team trading cards.  To add to the joy during the girls’ game the fans where told after the game the girls would be sitting at a table waiting to sign their cards.  Children and adults (myself included) of all ages swarmed the tables, cards in hand, waiting for their turn to meet the players and have their cards signed.

For those of you who are wondering why the junior and senior girls cards where not handed out; I was told they will be distributed at the Michigan Tech game that takes place on February 27 at 5:30.  If you would like to have a set of the junior and senior cards of your own and have them signed, be sure to mark that day on you calendar.

There was lots of suspense during the 1st half of the women’s game.  The teams where evenly matched and the lead in points changed hands many times.  At the end of the half the score was 40 to 36 NMU.  The second half was completely dominated by NMU.  The girls shut down Wayne State’s game and never let them reopen.  The ending score was NMU 84, Wayne state 69.

There was far more anxiety in the men’s game.  Both teams were determined to walk away with the win and they where not about to let the other stay in the lead for long.  At the end of the 1st half the score was 27 to 25 Wayne State.  The first half of the second period was more back and forth, then about 10 minutes in to the 2d half NMU took the lead and never gave it back. The ending score was NMU 74 Wayne State 66.
