Making Music Connections Above and Below The Bridge!

You many have noticed that Marquette is blossoming with grassroots community building events spanning throughout the year across all four seasons. A definitive sign that there is a strong desire for events of all kinds that bring people together around the shared focus of connecting with ourselves, each other, and the environment around us.

One such event will be taking place Thursday, July 30th on the outskirts of Marquette. A collaborative live music event set against the backdrop of a large rustic barn on the beautiful Belsolda Farm in Skandia. This performance is part of a local Barn Concert series with the intent of bringing together U.P. musicians and the downstate based Earthwork Music Collective in a family friendly venue. The shows are open to all ages and Dia De Los Tacos will be onsite serving up their ever popular gluten-free fare.

Randy Buchler of Shady Grove Farm in Gwinn is the organizer behind these events and is excited to share his vision of a “musical mackinac bridge” connecting the Earthwork Musicians to the U.P., while bringing in local musicians to collaborate with them. Says Randy, “I want to build and strengthen community via music and food. Belsolda Farm is the perfect family friendly venue to see this dream become a reality!”

The Earthwork Music Collective has been growing and gaining attention across the state of Michigan for its work to forge a new model of independent artists. They are a group of musicians dedicated to, “raise awareness, to mentor the youth, to build community and celebrate local culture, to uplift individuals and communities in times of need, and to encourage courageous engagement in the good work that needs to be done, both locally and globally.” You can discover more about them on their website:  Earthwork Music

Or just come on out to the Belsolda Farm (click link for address) in Skandia  and find out for yourself what a great environment your community has to offer. If you can’t make it for this performance, the Barn Concert series will offer one final show for the summer on August 30th.

Read the following write-up by event organizer, Randy Buchler for more info about featured performers in the upcoming July 30th show!

11780558_10205718458215229_79958668_nThis concert will feature Samuel Seth Bernard and May Erlewine Bernard, wsg ~ Gregory Stovetop!

Seth is the founder of the Earthwork Music Collective and pours his heart and soul into making this world a better place, one song at a time! The endless hours of community service, sharing, teaching, giving, loving and honoring this Earth, can’t be appreciated enough! A true professional and class act, Seth will once again be sharing his incredible musical talents and pulling at our heart strings!

May’s journey started early on, as she grew up in a family of artists and musicians. A home schooler who hitch-hiked across North America as a teenager, hopping freight trains and busking in the streets, she gained strength and courage, while learning to love and accept people of all walks of life. “Her songs show a very real connection and concern with everyday folk. “

As life and musical partners, Seth and May keep the Earthwork mission alive and on track.

“Through collaboration, the collective strives to incorporate efforts of environmental advocacy, social justice, creative empowerment and community building into the core functioning of a musical profession.”

This mission goes hand in hand with the work that we are trying to accomplish through this barn concert series and we couldn’t do it without Seth and May, or the Earthwork Music Collective!

Gregory Stovetop, also a member of the Earthwork Music Collective, comes to us from Chelsea, MI. He learned to sing with birds and dogs as a young boy. Stovetop has been shredding metal, country and everything in between since the ripe age of 14! His powerful music, voice and energy will leave you wanting for more!
