Big Cat Fight On The Pitch

Marquette, MI – NMU’s die hard soccer fans bundled up and faced the wind and cold to cheer on the women’s soccer team. They were rewarded for their support with an intense cat fight on NMU’s soccer pitch as the lady cats took on the Ohio Dominican University panthers.

The first goal of the game was scored by ODU’s Jordan Mazzi. The lady cats took offense to this and just 14 seconds later Carmen Villarruel scored a goal to tie the game. The first half came to an end with a tie score 1-1.

The second half NMU took the lead with a goal scored by Paula Hafner creating a 2-1 lead.  ODU recovered from their loss with a penalty kick made by Kethryn Mattingly. At the end of regulation the score was tied 2-2 forcing the game into overtime.

Overtime was a fierce struggle between the ladies as both teams where determined to walk away with the win.  At the end of overtime the score remained tied at 2-2 forcing the game into double overtime.  ODU took the win with a goal scored by Ashley Blake. The final score ODU 3 NMU 2.
