Marquette, MI – NMU homecoming was an emotional roller coaster ride full of excitement, suspense, and heartbreak for fans and athletes.  Saturday September 27th, 2014 NMU football and the swimming and diving teams presented to their fans an excellent display of athleticism.

NMU’s swimming and diving teams opened their season with a practice meet pitting teammates against teammates. Fans and teammates cheered the girls on to their personal best times. Two PEIF pool records where broken by senior Debbi Lawrence in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.

NMU wildcat football faced off against their rivals The Michigan Tech huskies, battling not only to win the game but to also have the honor of taking home the Miner’s Cup for the year. The stadium was packed with Wildcat and Husky fans going crazy cheering on their teams  till the bitter end. You could find them not only sitting in the stands but standing shoulder to shoulder against the barrier separating the fans from the field.

The Huskies ruled the first half of the game ending with a 21-7 lead. The second half the Wildcats rallied, clawing their way up the score board to tie the game with 1:47 left on the clock. The Huskies then took the ball and fought their way down the field to win the game with a 39-yard field goal kicked by Garrett Mead. The final score of the game 34 – 31.
