Marquette, MI – The Dead River Derby women’s roller derby team made a crushing victory over Wisconson’s Paper Valley Flying Squirrels during their recent last home derby bout at Lakeview Arena on June 21, 2014.  So far this season the Dead River girlz have remained undefeated for the 2014 season!  Get ready for some hot action as they lace up their skates for Saturday, July 12th’s derby bout against the Northwoods Derby Knock-outs: doors open at 6 – bout starts at 7pm.

As usual you can expect our local women’s derby league to produce some fast and furious skating!  These ladies hit hard and fast on the track but are all smiles and laughs between heats and even get together after each bout at Breakers Roadhouse to continue the fun.   In fact no matter what the score, I have not seen more fun and comraderie in a sporting event as in our local derby scene. The women’s derby scene has become a hot new local trend attracting community folks from all walks of life.

Beyond the great physical fitness and empowerment it offers participants the derby is dedicated to supporting other local community organizations as well.  A portion of proceeds from every home bout benefit another local non-profit.  Proceeds from their home bouts so far this year have benefitted local organizations of the Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum, Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve, Big Brothers Big Sisters and proceeds from this weekend’s derby will go to Music 4 All Kids, providing musical instruction for all kids no matter if they can pay.
