REDMEN EARN HARD FOUGHT WIN AGAINST ESKYMOS

Marquette, MI – The Marquette Redmen varsity football team hosted the Escanaba Eskymos Friday September 19, 2014 on their home field.  Plans for a comeback against Marquette fell short for the Eskymos as the Redmen held their lead with a close final quarter score of 24-22.

Friday night’s game featured a parent’s night tribute where players presented their biggest supporters to the crowd walking the field arm in arm with their moms and dads. As the field was whipped with strong winds dark skies and the threat of thunder and lightning loomed in the distance.

The first quarter started off with an Escanaba touchdown yet the Redmen persevered through two injuries in the first ten minutes of the game.  After a rough start they managed to make a touchdown almost tying the score at 7-8 to finish the first quarter.

Marquette dominated the ball in the second quarter making another touchdown and preventing the Eskymos from scoring. They took the second quarter into the half-time show with a lead of 14-0.  The Marquette Marching Band and Dance Team entertained the audience while the football teams regrouped.

 

After a slowing down in the third both teams turned up the heat in the final quarter of the game making for an exciting finish! Escanaba came close but Marquette held their lead and ended the game with a win of 24-22 to the excitement of their parents and fans.

Over the next two weeks the Redmen will play away games in Gladstone and Kingston.

Returning to their home field on October 11, 2014 to host Constantine.

October 17th they’ll be at home again for the big rivalry game against next door neighbors Negaunee for homecoming week!

October 24 they finish off the regular season in Menominee.
