NMU WINS AGAINST WAYNE ST. IN DRAMATIC FINAL SECONDS

The game was paired up with NMU’s family week and with band day. Many local bands from along the Upper Peninsula performed alongside Northern’s marching band during the half-time show. There were many activities taking place for children as well, allowing for parents to watch the game and pack the dome.

Going into the game with a 1-5 wining streak it was uncertain if the Wildcats were up to the challenge of taking on the Warriors. However this just gave NMU fans more reason to cheer their team on as they prepared to face off against the Wayne State Warriors.

Going into the second quarter the warrior’s kicker was able to drive in both a 47 and 31-yard field goal that pulled them ahead by 10. Soon after the wildcats junior running back Wyatt Jurasin found his way into the endzone with a three yard rush bring the score 13-30. At the end of the second quarter with only 27-seconds left on the clock warrior’s Jamel Hicks received a 37-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Carl Roscoe. Going into the third quarter the warriors pulled away with the lead thanks to their kicker Paul Graham. Graham converted a 44-yeard field goal changing the score 23-10 with 12:39 left on the clock. NMU soon after took the lead with the warriors turning over passion with three different attempts at goal. Wildcat’s quarterback Shaye Brown made a successful pass to junior running back Terrance Dye from five yards out for a touchdown. Helping to contribute to Brown throwing a career high of 346 yards. Junior wide receiver for the wildcats Austin Young astonishingly returned Graham’s 35-yard punt 66-yards for a touchdown with only 6:48 left in the third.

As the game progressed into the fourth quarter Laberge drove in a 24-yard field goal with 10:52 left in the quarter bring the score 27-23. On the warrior’s ‘s final attempt to regain the lead Junior linebacker Loran Jaddou intercepted Roscoe’s pass ending the game 33-30 with only one second left. Bring NMU’s over all up 2-5.
