NMU Hockey vs Ferris State

one-on-one

Over the weekend I decided take a break from my non-stop studies and attend both of the NMU hockey games. They were just what I needed to take my mind off of my individual art review coming up on Monday. If you are a student or just a member of the community I highly recommend attending a game to relax and take your mind off the stress of everyday life. Even though I was taking pictures of the game I still had a blast seeing friends and watching the team come back from their Friday night loss.

one-on-one

This was only my second time shooting hockey and first time shooting with a large lens, I feel that my images are much better then my first attempt. Shooting with a large lens did present some challenges at first like walking around with it, pivoting and focusing at the same time, and being able to see everything happening on the ice. However, within minutes I got the hang of shooting with it and was shooting like a pro.

With having such a long focal lens I did find it hard at times to follow the action on the ice and see everything that was going on. Thanks to the NMU hockey team playing as if it was their last game I was able to get a wide array of amazing shoots still. The non-stop action in both games countered the long focal length, giving me time to slow down and pick my shoots. After shooting both the hockey and football games I have come to the conclusion that there is no better way to see a game then through a lens.
