MARQUETTE JOINS THE LARGEST CLIMATE MARCH IN HISTORY!

Marquette, MI – With a small population such as ours sitting on the shores of the largest body of fresh water in the world and hosting not just one but two coal fired power plants it seems not only appropriate but essential that our community plays a part in initiating change.  This Sunday, September 21st, 2014 we have that chance to participate in a worldwide movement to confront the fossil fuel issue and take a stand.

The People’s Climate March is a collaboration involving citizens of the world, businesses, labor unions, faith groups, schools, social justice groups and more.  Timed to coincide with the UN Climate Meeting in New York City in which world leaders will be gathering for a UN summit on the climate crisis.  UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon will be pushing governments to support crucial goals to dramatically reduce global warming pollution.

More than 100,000 people are expected to join the People’s Climate March based in New York City this Sunday, September 21st in what will be the largest demonstration for climate action in history.  Thousands more will participate in their own local events across the globe and we are happy to announce that Marquette, Michigan is one of them!

Our local march will take walkers from power plant to power plant. Beginning at the South Beach Power Plant participants will walk along the lakeshore bike path to the Presque Isle Power Plant.

Join the walk this weekend, be part of the change!
